Lionel Bawden
Born in Sydney 1974.
Lionel was included in 'Artexpress',
Art Gallery of NSW in 1991 and later studied 'traditional European oil painting' at The China National Academy of Fine Arts (1995).
He completed his Bachelor of Arts with Honours, at The Australian National University, School of Art in 1997.
In 1998 his work, 'The comforts of anonymous paper men - Studded pink mattress', was included in The National Graduate Show at Perth Institute of Contemporary Art.
A significant proportion of his recent works are sculptural 'pencil forms' exploring honeycombs of hexagonal pencils. Pencil works have been shown in solo shows 'Drift', Caravan, S.A, and 'LED', Canberra Contemporary Art Space (1998) and group shows 'Item' and 'Implant' at Level Gallery, Sydney (1999).
His work 'Hive' exhibited at 'The Boulevard' A.C.T (2001). These transparent honeycombs of biros are also the source for his work in 'Collabo'. Lionel most recently exhibited 'BIRO' at Artbox, Sherman Galleries, Sydney.
